Sensory Inclusive
KidMed is the MS Gulf Coast’s first sensory inclusive pediatric urgent care, offering sensory bags and sensory equipped rooms. Sensory disorders are currently estimated to impact as many as 15% of children in the United Sates. These conditions are marked by a significant sensitivity to sounds, textures, tastes, brightness, crowded places, or new environments and can cause an already ill or injured child significant stress if not appropriately and sensitively handled.
For children with autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), sensory processing disorders, and anxiety, a trip to an urgent care or emergency room can cause extreme stress for the parent and child. From the waiting room colors, lighting, and furniture to noise-cancelling headphones, fidget toys, and mobile sensory stations available for our patients, KidMed is designed to accommodate all families.
Our vision is also to keep plenty of kid-friendly snacks, prizes, and more to make the visit easier for children and parents. KidMed provides an environment that gives parents the peace of mind knowing there is a place that can provide the healthcare their children need while also providing a sensory friendly setting.
